Purdue University
Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is Indiana’s land grant college. Founded in 1869 and named after benefactor John Purdue, the University is one of the nations leading research institutions. Originally founded to focus on Engineering and Agriculture, it now offers a wide range of courses and majors including Liberal Arts, Management, Pharmacy, Science, Technology and Veterinary Science.
The West Lafayette campus supports 39,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Another 30,000 students are enrolled in degree programs at the Purdue University sister campuses around the state. 59% of the student bodies are Indiana residents, 28% are from other states or territories and 13% are international students, representing 124 nations.
Purdue is a member of the Big Ten Athletic Conference and participates in 18 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports. Renowned for it’s football and men’s and women’s basketball history, Purdue athletics has also made a national name for itself in many of the other “non-revenue” men’s and women’s sports.
